beelzebewps If you give this album a chance, you will appreciate the emotional impact of the whole album and the "John Muir Blues" song specifically. If you like the work of Dan Auerbach, you will realize that this is probably what he listens to for inspiration. Couldn't recommend it enough! Favorite track: John Muir Blues.

heavyMGS As Steve mentioned, ZZ Top ish grooves with almost Chris Cornell type vocals. Good beers drinking / grilling jams. Guitar player also obviously loves the guitar solos from Led Zeppelin I and so do I! Favorite track: Moonlighting Man.

Midwest Dirt 04:33
Ain't no heaven, in them clouds, no there Ain't no hell, down underground All I know of this rotten Earth The devil lives down in the Midwest dirt People line up, one and all Drink some wine, it'll soothe your soul I've been raised and I've been fed Blinded faith lies to level my head Teach the young man Before you fall to your knees Beat down the gay and poor God don't care for their need Please don't spend life fading Like a lost sheep in the fog I'll warn you before you trouble There ain't no face of God There ain't no face of God There ain't no face of God There ain't no face of God There ain't no face of God
2.
Teacher can't help now he's gone mad That old bitch pulls out her flask Popping those pills ain't gonna learn him Not for a twelve-year-old that's yearning, Oh no Floodgates open to your eyes, yet you don't seem to mind The crying of a helpless child, trampled on a shallow tide Call him a madman But the man was born to kill He's the animal mother He's been locked up for nine months now Judge says next week they'll let him out Jail time may not have done him in Behind those bars the madman grins Call him a madman But the man was born to kill He's the animal mother
3.
My bones are aching to come alive Its got me heading home, I'm heading down to die I hear the mountains call, soon I shall be fine Keep on loving mountain take me high Til the land you love is dead To feel the breeze, to wade in snow I got a letter on, a letter on my door Tell, the rivers cry, soon I'll feel that tide Keep on loving mountain take me high Til the land you love is dead Hey baby, don't you bother now, I'm a dying man Difference of you and me is how I see the land Hey baby, don't you bother now, I'm a dying man No more can I breathe in deep, a hit of fresh air I am dying, I am dying I am dying, I am dying
4.
There is a reason I brought you dear All I could emulate was pain and fear I was an old ugly child, yeah You had my heart when it died, yeah Ain't no man in me Ain't no man in me Worshiping my god Ain't no man in me I made a fool of you Tried to stop the lying but I can't hear the truth I got a woman now, up on the hill Can't find no other man to make her feel I got a woman now, up on the hill Can't find no other man to make her feel My heart is busted up That won't slow my dying babe I know I'm the fool I got a woman now, up on the hill Can't find no other man to make her feel I got a woman now, up on the hill Can't find no other man to make her feel Well it got me off for trying, what's bad and isn't true I'll stay so lonely and blue Til my little woman come back, Mary Lou
5.
40 Grains 03:26
Run from the law, radiations high Circulating blood drains out my side Help me now, I've got a mind for you to mend Shot me down baby, hollow my hide for another man All in my lonesome I wish to die Send to my angels, come and cry Help me now, I've got a mind for you to mend Shot me down baby, hollow my hide for another man Help me now, I've got a mind for you to mend Shot me down baby, hollow my hide for another man Well my blood is gone, and it's taking me on Aim and lock forty grains of rusted lead Take a dip and settle down your rusty hand Drag me to hell aside the angel of death
6.
I saw fire, fire and brimstone Raining down, overhead I heard lies, of a soldier Staking claim, of our land Oh Medicine, is my mother And her mud, runs through me Take my lungs, cut my knees now Float me down, set me free Arrows of war found, right through their wicked heart Arrows of war found, right through their wicked heart I see the sun, is rising That muddy water, beet colored red In the eyes, of a native Your hollow soul, staggers dead Satanta follow my eyes, Injun ire troubles my makers mind

MOUNTAIN RAG RELEASES DEBUT EP 'OF THE SOUTHERN PLAINS'

Austin-based Band Embraces Dark Themes and Heavy Blues Sound

AUGUST 20, 2015 (Austin, TX) — The new release from Texas trio Mountain Rag is now available online. Fresh from numerous Austin shows, including sets at the Gypsy Lounge, Spiderhouse Ballroom and Off by Southwest festival, the group channeled a strong reception into an energetic 6-track album.

Building on their heavy blues style, Of the Southern Plains showcases a deft homage to Delta blues with a stoner-rock undercurrent. Tracks explore the dark mythology of the American West, touching on Native American history, isolation, and the blood-soaked cultural inheritance of the frontier.

The Austin-based podcast Talking Sound tapped the band for interviews, praising the “dirty honesty” in the music. Individual tracks released on Bandcamp already have fans buzzing that, “like a Tres Hombres-era ZZ Top…this could be a driving to/from work classic.”

Of the Southern Plains is currently available as a download on Bandcamp (mountainrag.bandcamp.com), and hard CDs are available for purchase at

about

Mountain Rag Austin, Texas

Fuzzy, heavy, and paying homage to the roots, Mountain Rag is the music of whiskey-soaked nights, and days spent wandering desert roads under a painted Big Sky. Michael Presho (guitar), Nick Dettmer (drums), and Ryan Nelson (vocals/bass) met with music in mind, soon recording songs that begin to unearth the dark mythology of the American West. ... more
